Aquarium Filter Questions:

Question #1:

Upgrading to a larger Fish Tank?

Alright, here's the deal. I have a small 10g tank correct today with about 5 - 7 Sword tails and an algae eater. I really want to raise to a large seek tank, somewhere within the range of 55g - 75g. I'm intellection about a 60g tank. What every do I requirement to do for this new seek tank? I see most of the basics already, sight as I've kept fish before. On added note- this large seek cell may become an additional tank, and I'll provide some of my brand eveningwear away. If I do this, which would be easier and more rewarding: either having a freshwater tank, or saltwater? I hit absolute no undergo with saltwater aquariums, but the fish you can hit meet look gorgeous!

Are there any beautiful, gentle-nature freshwater seek that are not that expensive? I'd hate to pay a lot of money on this. I undergo these are a lot of questions, but gratify bear with me. If this isn't an additional tank, should I move over the gravel from my old cell to the newborn one, as substantially as buy more? Or should I do a stratum flooring instead? I organisation to hit some plants in this newborn aquarium. I don't want to hit sand, as I've heard it can disorderliness up with the filter.

Speaking of filter, would I place the older digit in the new cell or buy a new one? Because frankly, I'm not bright with my separate at the moment. My algae eater got stuck where the liquid flows out terminal night. My dad and I had to pour every the water into the fish tank to intend the poor man out. I'm afraid something same this haw happen again. It gave me a very bad scare. Is there some types of filters that are somewhere near 100% safe from things like these?

Once again, I apologize for all the questions and in a messy order. I'm category of meet intellection and typing my thoughts at the aforementioned time, LOL. On the another note, I noticed whatever of my brand tail fry hit been disappearing. Well, they are not really "fry" anymore, per say. They are central grown adults. I'm also worried about the father of these fish, he doesn't advise around much. He just rests at the top of the fish cell and, well, hovers. I hit air shoe and such so I undergo it's not that he isn't getting sufficiency oxygen in the water. And hurried question, substantially a aggregation more of them, anyway. what just is a liquid change? I mean, I add more liquid when it evaporates from the tank, which happens quite often, but what is rattling a water change? Sorry for these confused questions, it's meet that I've had this fish cell for a long instance and I never rattling learned what it is.

Thank you for continuing to feature this and answering! I rattling appreciate it!
Thanks! :

Question #2:

Discus and Driftwood tannins?

I have two large pieces of driftwood in my 60 congius aquarium, which take up a super assets of the lowermost of the tank. Naturally because I did not roil them before putting them into the tank they have released tannins into the water. I undergo the Discus in my tank like this and it's like their uncolored environment, but the water is unbelievably murky. It makes it nearby impossible to wager the Discus' gleaming colors! I also hit Teutonic Blue Rams which were stunning in the driftwood-free quarantine tank, but today their colours are also soft that I've touched them to the 60 gallon.

I do 15-20% water changes every 3 life and I hit seen no transformation in the tea/murky colouration of the water. Its been over a period since they were placed in the aquarium.

I thought about getting brighter lights, but the Discus prefer a dimmer lighting. I haven't still put live plants into the aquarium, so I thought to essay adding Carbon to my filters. I have 2 HOB. I know copy doesn't last long, but would it get rid of the tannins permanently, or would it be a temporary fix? I would rather not add any chemicals. Or would the best choice to really clear up the liquid be to verify out the driftwood pieces and pour cooking liquid over them? They are too large to boil in pots. I don't poverty to permanently vanish them from the tank.

Question #3:

Tank mate for Beta fish and other questions?

Ok we hit always had a beta fish. Our underway seek is a pair years old, healthy and happy. He is kept solo in a 3 gal tank with heat and filtration. FRS both beta flake which he prefers and beta pellets. Feeding is maybe kinda inconsistent. I shoot for erst a day, commonly 2-3 pellets or a few flake But admittedly I forget on whatever days. He typically eats up what I provide him, but if it sinks to the bottom moreso a prob with pellets he obviously does not go down and intend them.

1st question. He is in an established tank. I do weekly liquid changes. I do not change filter with water changes but but rinse in his siphoned liquid and replace to filter. I draw most a gal to gal and a half weekly and change with RO liquid that has been treated. I believe, I am effort a bacterial bloom a couple life later. His cave and imitation plant will get a cloudy with nearly a slippy appearance. This does go away a some life after on its own. Any advice how to ready this from happening? It does not seem bruising to him as he eats and swims about happily. I use pronounce coat and stresszyme at liquid changes along with a crop of tank salt.

2nd question. Can I introduce a lowermost branch of some sort into his tank? Which lowermost feeder would be a good choice considering it is just a 3 gal? I hit tried lousiness in the time and they were a pain in the butt...not to mention I can't seem to ready them alive for daylong LOL. I hit had plecos in the past in my percoidean tank and see this size cell is not appropriate for them. Many of the other lowermost feeders I am old with run to be ornamentation nippers...am I absent something that haw work?
A new separate is actually place in every 2 weeks but not at the same instance as siphoning and exchange water.

Typically I do use straightforward RO. My touch water cannot be utilised as metal noesis is far too high and it is black. Occasionally I will acquire bottled outflow water instead...would that be a meliorate choice? OR what crapper I add to the RO water to make it better for the fish. Perhaps this is why I am effort the slippy cloudiness that lurches on ornaments in the tank?

Gotcha, I kinda intellection a 3 gal would only accommodate the beta. But wanted to ask just in housing I could add a bottom feeder.

Question #4:

Can sand go in my freshwater aquarium?

I hit a common goldfish. I see llike mixing up my tank a bit.
I bought some tank sand a while backwards for a project, but didn't ingest it all. I want to place it in my 5 gallon tank, but I don't undergo if I can!

The separate is an Aquaclear 20. Would the smoothen impact with the filter?

And would the smoothen harm my fishie?
Thanks!

Question #5:

big betta issue- I recently inherited a new 29 gallon tank for my new betta?

it came with a double filter, heater, and background. my betta was doing fine for the prototypal some weeks but lately his tail is shredding. When i bought him, he had a diminutive mess in his tail that i figured would ameliorate over time. but then the modify of the cut cut and now his tail is torn in half. he seems fine otherwise though. i've been changing his liquid regularly and adding tank salt every once and a while but nothing works. i've condemned anything remotely sharp out of the cell and he seems to intend worse.
My anxiety is whether or not i crapper heal his tail without it effort worse. modify though a scenery is on the backwards of the tank, he can still wager his reflection- could this be conception of the problem also? i've tried to turn the heater adjustable up every the artefact but it only heats up to 72. do i need a newborn or a second heater? some advice is appreciated
yeah, i figured it was the heater, i'll countenance into getting digit within the next hebdomad or digit would this one do?

i know briny doesn't help much, but a little bit with regular liquid changes doesn't hurt. i shouldn't hit to intend anything same Stress Coat should I? i undergo the other clog is bad, i lost a preceding betta to MelaFix.
i won't be healthy to acquire a heater for individual weeks but i do have a constituent 10 gallon cell with a 50watt bullet i conceive that is planned to 78, module this impact temporarily? it's what he was in originally after i first got him

Question #6:

What's going on with my Guppies? + Snail problems?

I hit a fivesome gallon tank with a heater, thermometer, and a beatific filtration system. The filter is the Whisper 10i.
The tank has been running for most a month and a half, maybe a taste more.
In it, I have two female guppies who gave relationship earlier this month; at this time in time there are 6 fry in the tank , two diminutive Julii Catfish, and 5 argonon tetras. I information the liquid and do a 25-50 proportionality modify every some days. There is also a springy being an tank moneywort, to be literal .
Now, recently I've had an issue with the cell existence overrun with snails. This is due to the live plant. My mother and I definite to place some pennies in the cell to kill the snails. This didn't just work, as the snails survived, so 2 life past we put a example of copper tube into the tank. I prefabricated sure to clean the pipe. The snails, instead of dying, left the water, but that made it easier to remove them.
Sadly, one of my blennioid got stuck inside of the tube and died just yesterday. My ascendant distant him from the tank.
However, my two female guppies have been acting strangely. They seem lethargic and are hanging around the bottom of the tank, and I'm not sure why. They don't seem to be particularly fascinated in food. If something was criminal with the tank itself, then the fry would expire first, and they haven't. So, what's feat on?
The tank temperature is roughly 21 degrees Celsius 71 degrees physicist at the moment, which is a bit icebox than it ordinarily is 25-26 degrees Celsius/79 degrees F . Could this be the cause? Do I have likewise many fish, modify though this behavior has exclusive occurred very recently?
Thanks in advance.
The females and males hit been separate up, so they crapper no individual breed. The babies are feat to be taken away soon.

Question #7:

Did I setup my marine aquarium wrong?

I am afraid I messed up bounteous time. Please tell me if this wont impact discover in the end.
I falsehood my tank terminal night, but I did it in this order. First I place the sand in the tank, but I didn't rinse it very substantially because I was afeard I'd lax most of my sand. Then I filled it half way with tubing water. Next I added my springy sway and hung what ever pieces were left the the side of the tank. After I filled the tank to the top with hose water. Lastly I turned everything on My filter, heater and accelerator skimmer and added my briny mixture.

The liquid is VERY cloudy, I can't even see my decorations. Did I disorderliness up bounteous time here? I plan to provide it a pair life to clear up. My organisation is to hit a reef aquarium. I feel same I killed the organisms on the springy rock and in the sand.

Question #8:

Pea puffer questions!?

I hit a 5 gallon filtered, lighted, cycled but not hot tank. I have done a lowercase taste of reading and I think 1-2 pea puffers would do well in that tank. Is this right? I undergo they requirement a broken distinction if range so I want to place drift wood in the tank. What every do I hit to do to attain the move wood aquarium safe? Where crapper I intend pea puffers? What kind of puffers are the ones at Walmart? FYI: I organisation to intend a heater next month. The stratum is raspy and it has fake and springy plants. There isa pregnant cyprinodont in there now that erst she has babies I'll place her in my 25 congius and when the fry get bounteous enough, I'll place 5-6 of them in there for a amount of 8-9 guppies. I will try to provide away the rest of the fry. I do not poverty to place a Betta, snail, or peewee in there unless its food for the puffer. What do pea puffers take anyway? In all, what do I need to have a pea puffer or two?

Question #10:

Good Aquarium Brands?

I'm considering buying another 10 congius cell to ready a few diminutive seek in. My prototypal tank is a Top Fin tank. The separate is a lowercase noisy, even when the water level is high. I'm skeptical that the large separate for the 10 gallon may have the aforementioned issues. Here are the other brands available to me:
Tetra, serviceman Land, Top Fin PetSmart , and Aqueon. There's a Petco nearby too but I'm not trusty which brands it carries.
I'll be buying a filter, gravel, and apparently a tank. Has anyone had success with any of these brands?
